A Little More Loss Protocol

Locus magazine has put up Niall Harrison's insightful and spoiler-free review of Loss Protocol on its web site. 'Surely some of the best speculative nature writing – which is to say nature writing about an ecosystem that does not exist – yet published.'

And from The Guardian's review (with a bonus illustration of deep purple psychotropic shrooms): 'Beautifully written, blending close attention to the natural world with hallucinogenic dreams and a mind-boggling premise, this is an eco-thriller like no other from one of Britain’s best SF writers.'

Hi Paul, I'm new to your work, live in Aus, found it thru Guardian review, a quick (nerdy) q regarding Winter's reaction to the home invasion (burglary) incident when he says as a drone he would be 'Of the world, but not in it.'As a writer, did you reverse this in your mind? ( Of and in,) , I'm 20 % into the book so I might feel embarrassed tomorrow

Thanks for listening to.your readers

Winters means that he'd be an observer, not a participant. Part of the world, but not taking part in it. Think the sentence would work either way (it is a bit more gnomic than explicit, I agree, but here it's his (somewhat stoned) voice).
