Here’s the cover of the French edition of Mind’s Eye, published at the end of last month. It couldn’t be called Mind’s Eye in France because there’s already a novel by that name, but my indefatigable and microscopically attentive translator, Bernard Sigaud, came up with Glyphes, which is equally good if not better.

Great book cover. Much more intriguing, ardent, good than the English-language one I've seen.
Ever read your own books in translation?

French is the nearest I have to a second language, but my grasp of it falls far short of the skill necessary to read a novel entire. Bernard and I had very detailed exchanges about the translation, and from his questions I realize how different the text has to be, in places. Especially as the novel was written in a loose, idiomatic English that contains many phrases and words that don't have exact equivalents in French. So I have nothing but admiration for translators, who must steer between respect for the text and the possibilities of the language into which they are rendering it.
