Hey c'mon, I haven't even gotten hold of The Quiet War here in Australia! Not fair ;)
(Well I know that in reality it means More McAuley comin', so I don't know what I'm complaining about here... So yay!)

Don't worry - this is just the first station of the cross in a long and painstaking editorial and production process: the edit, my rewrite and polishing, the copyedit and another polish, proofreading and final tweaking... The finished book won't be published until November next year (if all goes to plan).
This one's a sequel to The Quiet War, isn't it? I'm just in the middle of reading it, and I'm counting the Golding references. As well as the quote at the beginning, from Free Fall, I've also seen 2 references to the Inheritors (holding fire in clay, and *Loc* Ifrahim.) Do I get a prize?
Great: my copy of Quiet just got here, swallowed and is swallowing swathes of my time to my great delight and now the long wait starts for Gardens!
The Quiet War is a great book - I stayed way too late last night to finish it- I bought it from Book Depository which is my #1 source for UK books since they have free s&h to the US.
I wrote a mini-review on the sffworld forum and I will write a formal review for Robert at Fantasy Book Critic soon and I was wondering if Gardens of the Sun is a direct sequel to this one.
The Quiet War ends quite satisfactorily for me, but it's clear there are lots of things that can happen next.
Petey - the next is indeed a sequel to The Quiet War, and I was chagrined to find out how much more I had to say about my characters. The holding fire in clay bit I got (or thought I got) directly from one of Ray Mears's survival programmes, but, yes, it's right there in The Inheritors. Loc/Lok? I'd say the comparison was unfavourable to poor old Lok (whose death scene is one of the most tremendous and affecting in English literature in my opinion). Keep looking!
