Apollo 11 Owners' Workshop Manual

All you need to fix up that vintage rocket you bought in a garage sale, right here.

Via Bad Astronomy (which has a great post on ripples in Saturn's rings, too).

Just finished a story about zombies and the Royal family. It's almost the weekend, the sun is shining, reckon I'll take the rest of the day off.

Hi Ian,

Look forward to the review. Can't fault yr observations on Moon Shot; some fascinating detailsm, but too much of a similarity with sportspersons 'autobiographies' for my taste.

The Heynes Manual arrived today and, well, it's more a general - and less, um, geeky - treatment of Apollo 11 than the "Owners' Workshop Manual" subtitle suggests.

The best book I've read to date on Apollo 11 has been First on the Moon by Armstrong, Aldrin & Collins. A review of that, and the Heynes Manual, will be going up on my blog next month, as part of my 40th celebrations of the Moon Landing.

Hi Ian, Oh dear. I was hoping for blueprints and exploded diagrams. Will watch out for the review.

Have you read Norman Mailer's Of A Fire on The Moon? That's still pretty much the gold standard for me, on the topic. Light's Full Moon photo book also essential imho.

Paul, if it's exploded diagrams you want then I can recommend Virtual Apollo. (There's a companion volume on the LM but it seems to be out of print._

Hi Simon, thanks for the pointer. Is it detailed enough to build one from scratch (assuming you could work up all the machine tools necessary)? There's some free stuff on the net, specifically - as you might expect - from NASA. Reminds me of the Airfix LEM I built when I was very much younger...

Thinking of going somewhere, Paul?

I think Pauls taking research to a new level.

(Or maybe he's already been. Hmm. Maybe thats why the Lunar sequences in The Quiet War are so evocative...)

Paul, no, I've not read the Mailer, although it's certainly on my wants list.

I have Virtual Apollo, and reviewed it here. I don't have a copy of Virtual LM though. Also good are the two News Reference books - see here.
