Eight Easy Pieces
The latest issue of New Scientist includes a fine essay on British science fiction by Kim Stanley Robinson and eight slivers of flash fiction by Stephen Baxter, Nicola Griffith, Ken Macleod, Ian McDonald, Justina Robson, Geoff Ryman, Ian Watson and, er, me. Best of all, you can read all of it here, for free. Oh, and there's a competition, too.

Thank you, Paul.
"Penance" is Laconic and very impressive.
I very like your short-form prose (as "There Are the Doors"). Very short but I'm starting to believe that your heros are real persons.
Thanks for posting that Paul. I shall read it tomorrow. I let my NS subscription lapse, since the fine Uppsala City Library gets it. But I heard last week that the library will be subjected to budget cuts. If NS gets the axe I'll renew my subscription. I subscribe to Scientific American only because its articles are too difficult for me to read in a busy library.
