In Print Or Pixels

Sometimes I'm asked by US readers whether they can buy a particular title of mine. So I thought it would be useful to list what's available in print and ebook in the UK and the US so that I can point enquiries towards it. Apologies in advance: this is going to be a post that's a) pretty listy and b) completely self-promoting.

In the UK

The following titles are available in print and ebook form (although older titles may be a bit hard to track down outside of online or specialist bookshops):
Four Hundred Billion Stars
Eternal Light
Red Dust
Pasquale's Angel
Fairyland
Confluence
Cowboy Angels
The Quiet War
Gardens of the Sun
In the Mouth of the Whale
Evening's Empires

There are also several story collections and individual stories that I've published through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing.  They're available from Amazon UK, Amazon US, and other countries covered by KDP:

Stories:
City of the Dead
Dr Pretorius and the Lost Temple
Prisoners of the Action

Collections:
Little Machines
Stories of the Quiet War
Life After Wartime

 In the US

The only titles still in print in deadwood format are Cowboy Angels, The Quiet War, and Gardens of the Sun; again, they're probably only available via online or specialist bookshops. But you can order other titles via the Book Depository, which offers free worldwide postage.

As for ebooks, the following titles are available in Nook, Kindle and iTune formats:
Four Hundred Billion Stars
Eternal Light
Red Dust
Pasquale's Angel
Fairyland
The Secret of Life
Whole Wide World
White Devils
Confluence
Cowboy Angels
The Quiet War
Gardens of the Sun
In the Mouth of the Whale
Evening's Empires

I'll do my best to keep this updated. All additional information gratefully received.

UPDATE#1 Michael Rossow and Brian both have kindly pointed out that The Secret of Life, Whole Wide World and White Devils are available on Kindle in the US, but In The Mouth of the Whale and Evening's Empires aren't.  The first three are invisible from the UK but the last two are visible with $ prices because Amazon's site has geolocation that imposes local publishing rights.  I spoofed it with Hola to get the correct US customer view.

UPDATE#2 (9 July 2014) In The Mouth of the Whale is now available in Nook format in the US. Hopefully it will soon be available in Kindle format too, as will Evening's Empires.

UPDATE#3 (19 July 2014) In the Mouth of the Whale is now available on Kindle in the US, and in the US iTunes store.

UODATE#4 (21 July 2014) Evening's Empires now available on Kindle in the US.

Looking at Amazon in the US this morning, it appears I can purchase "The Secret of Life", "Whole Wide World", and "White Devils" in Kindle format.

Both "In the Mouth of the Whale" and "Evening's Empires" appear to be unavailable from Amazon in the US in Kindle format.

Michael is correct, "In the Mouth of the Whale" and "Evening's Empires" do not appear available on Amazon US in Kindle format.

Many thanks, Michael and Brian. The 3 Tor titles don't appear when viewed from the UK, but ITMOW and EE do, complete with rankings... After a bit of thought, I managed to do a virtual relocation. And, oho, the Tor titles appeared and the other two vanished. Caught out by Amazon's geolocation system again!

Paul, I'd like to tell your readers: guys, check out Ebay, Abebooks, Alibris, you'll find everything and don't bother the author :)

Not that there's anything wrong with the secondhand market, but from my point of view it would be lovely if at least some readers bought books currently in print where I get a (notional) royalty and a sale that counts towards the possibility of me publishing more books. Call me selfish...

In The Mouth of the Whale and Evening's Empires aren't available on Kindle...

-------------------------
For me this is becoming a selling point... It's hard these days to imagine buying a print book, it's time consuming and I can't get the Highlights for Amazon Kindle, utilized for book reviews from a Paperback.

I recently went to an actual bookstore, something that I used to do besides buy Starbucks coffee and did look for your books in the Science Fiction area, Mr. McAuley... but alas, you were not represented.

With a writer of your caliber I'll be forced to read a Paperback (UGH)... But I'm hopeful that the last two books of the Quiet War Saga will be on Kindle by then.

Will that be occurring?

Your friend Alastair Reynolds is always on Kindle...

if that's a selling point....

lol

Thanks for the list; one question...any idea why its not possible to get e-book versions of all of your books in the US ? (Thinking of Evening's Empires specifically)

Just noticed that the kindle store has the Confluence omnibus OR the individual volumes. Same slightly revised text as the omnibus?

Jonathan and Andy - ebook versions of In The Mouth of the Whale and Evening's Empires should be available in the US shortly. More news as and when.

Jonathan - the individual volumes are the regooded versions, or so I've been told. The omnibus also includes two related short stories, if that's any kind of selling point.

Thanks Paul, I took the plunge on the individuals to replace my paper copies, and I believe the two stories are included in your PS Publishing "Best of" if that helps anybody decide between the two versions!
