'Rocket Boy'

I’ve put up the full text of my short story ‘Rocket Boy’ over at my web site.

It first appeared in the anthology Future Weapons of War, published in February, although I've yet to see a copy. Has anyone spotted one in the wild? Perhaps the publishers are too busy counting their money to send out contributors’ copies. Or perhaps my copy has been intercepted by Homeland Security on its way out of the US; even now some apparatchik might be puzzling his way through the stories, looking for sentences that might possibly give comfort to the Axis of Evil.

Hello Paul

I ordered a copy from The Book Depository via Amazon UK about a month ago (I guess that means it was from a game reserve rather than 'wild'?). A mixed bag of tales, although 'Rocket Boy' and another about children being turned into walking bombs struck the deepest chords (I am afraid I cannot remember the author of the other tale- maybe KK Rusch? and I left my copy at school!).

Hi Nathan,

I've been in the Book Deository, so that counts as a spot as far as I'm concerned. And I'm intrigued that Kathryn Kristin Rusch seems to be striking a similar chord.

Hi Paul,
I saw it in a number of book shops in the US of A when I was there a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, despite your presence, I was disinclined to purchase a military sf book (published by Baen), all in all. It did look like a mixed bag.

But... although I haven't read it yet, I currently have it open in a tab at home, as Baen has it as a "sample chapter" somewhere.
*goes to check*

Seems to be complete!

Er... in case that didn't quite work:
Rocket Boy, courtesy of Baen's Webscriptions.
Strange thing is, I'm sure the layout of the one I have at home is different.
I am surprised they didn't let you know!

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the info. I thought I was pirating my own story - didn't realise it had been pre-pirated!

You can bet that a Baen anthology involving the great Joe Haldeman isn't likely to be a *standard* military sf book.

Adelaide, Australia recently.

And no, it is not the Marines in Spaaaaceeee sort of thing, at all.

Precisely as pointed out, Haldeman was involved so I don't think that was ever too likely.

Craters by Rusch is the best I think, then yours, DuBois and Williamson.
